What differentiates HVSD from other service organizations is our focus on providing services to Veteran's individual or family needs. All efforts are geared towards moving Veterans and their families out of homelessness and on to independent living. HVSD understands and deals with problems that require solutions the V.A. and/or other support organizations cannot supply on their own. No single agency can provide the full spectrum of services necessary to help move Veterans out of homelessness and on to independent living. HVSD reaches out to homeless service providers, government leaders, local communities, and all who care about the plight of homeless Veterans in our community. HVSD collaborates with various community homeless service providers for the annual STAND DOWN. What is a Stand Down? The annual Stand Down event is a grass roots, community based intervention program designed to help Dallas' homeless combat life on the streets. The Stand Down gives homeless Veterans a day of safety and security where they can obtain food, shelter, clothing and a range of other types of assistance. It is a hand-up not a hand-out philosophy. The event is carried out with the hard work of volunteers and organizations throughout the city. HVSD raises funds for the Stand Down to provide Veterans with needed items such as hygiene products, underwear, coats and gloves. 2010--2012
